The Midwest seems implacable about draining the Great Lakes. I suggest using wave energy to power desalination plants along the coast, re: Australia.

I'm not talking about draining the lakes. The great lakes hold something like 50% of the world's fresh water supply.
I'm talking more about the strange combination of raiding the great salt mines below the lakes at an alarming rate to melt snow on city streets that does not end up back in the lakes.
